Roberto Chavarria passed on April 10th, 2026, surrounded by loved ones after a long battle with cancer at 76 years old. He was born on August 8th, 1949, in Laredo, Texas, to Emilio Chavarria and Manuela Garcia. Roberto attended Tahoka High School before making the decision to join the army in 1969. After serving his time in the military, Roberto went on to marry Sally Gonzales in 1975.
Roberto was known for his strong, wise, and sometimes stubborn personality. He was a hardworking man and would love spending most of his day outside, working on his house, helping his grandchildren with their cars, gardening and tending to his lawn, and spending time with his animals. Roberto also enjoyed vacationing to Kerrville, Texas, where he would visit his in-laws, have barbecues and swim in the river.
Roberto’s own personal achievements included being a husband, being a father to 4, and being a grandfather. He would always say his family was his greatest achievement and every new baby born to his family was a gift from God. He was a religious person who followed God. Roberto not only raised his own children but went on to raise 2 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He was always someone that could be counted on and someone who many would look to for advice.
Roberto is survived by his wife, Sally Chavarria, his son, Robert (spouse Sally) of Lubbock, his daughter, Tracie (spouse Sam) of San Antonio, his daughter, Elvira of Albuquerque, his 21 grandchildren, and 45 great-grandchildren.
Roberto was preceded in death by his father Emilio Chavarria, his mother Manuela Garcia, his brother Emilio “Peewee” Chavarria Jr., his sister Mary Ramon, his sister Betty, and his son, Chris Machado, all of whom he missed very much.
Roberto’s passing will be felt by many, but the wisdom he was able to pass on will continue to be used by his family and be passed down for generations.
His memorial will be held at Monterey Baptist Church (3601 50th St) in Lubbock, Texas, on Friday, April 17th, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. Cremation services are under the direction of House of Angels Funeral Home.
