Phyllis Russell Selby, 72, of Lubbock, Texas, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2026. She was born on August 29, 1954, in Lubbock, Texas, and was a proud graduate of Cooper High School. In November of 1983, Phyllis married the love of her life, Garry Selby. Together, they built a life centered around family, animals, the outdoors, and countless adventures along the way.
Phyllis was a bookkeeper by profession, with Alied Stone, but the things that truly defined her were the people and animals she loved. From the very beginning, she had a love for animals that stayed with her throughout her entire life. She loved horses and grew up barrel racing and bull riding. She never lost her love for being outdoors. Camping, hiking, traveling, and exploring were all things that brought her joy. In later years, she enjoyed going on cruises and jeeping through Colorado, always finding something new to see and experience. She especially loved collecting rocks from the places she visited—little pieces of her adventures that she could bring home with her. She loved watching Garry and Kyle dirt track race, cheering them on and being there for the moments that mattered. Above all else, though, Phyllis loved her family. Those who knew Phyllis knew she was one of a kind. She was stubborn as hell, had a heart of gold, and a sense of humor that could leave you laughing—or wondering for a moment whether she was actually joking. More often than not, she was. That humor and personality remained with her till the end. Phyllis loved deeply, lived fully, and had a way of making an impression on everyone fortunate enough to meet her. She will be remembered for her strength, her humor, her love of animals and the outdoors, and most of all, the love she had for her family.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her father, Phillip Russell, and her son, Aaron.
She is survived by her mother, Dorris Russell and brother Mark Russell. Her husband, Garry Selby; her son, Kyle Selby and wife Lisa Lively; her grandchildren, Austin, Justin, Braden & Camaron; Shawn and Sherry Selby; and Selena Green, along with numerous extended family members and friends who loved her dearly.
Phyllis leaves behind a lifetime of memories, laughter, adventures, and a whole lot of stories that will undoubtedly be told for years to come. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at House of Angels Funeral Home Chapel, 1928 34th Street, Lubbock, Texas. Graveside services will also be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park, Woodrow, Texas.
