Oralia Suniga, 77, of Shallowater, passed away on Monday, April 28, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on November 30, 1947, in McAllen, Texas to the late Roberto and Hilaria (Perez) Contreras. She married Antonio Suniga on August 27, 1966, in Shallowater, Texas and together they began their family. Oralia was involved in her church, St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church, where she served as an Eucharistic Minister, a member and officer of the Guadalupanas, and other duties within the church ministry. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a good Christian woman who was always ready to share her many talents, time, and treasures with anyone in need. She had a heart of gold and will be deeply missed.
Those left to cherish her loving memories are her children, Robert Suniga of San Antonio, Texas and Michelle Vergara of Shallowater, Texas; siblings, Jose Contreras and wife Nena of Plainfield, Illinois, Beatrice Ballejo of Houston, Texas, and Juan Contreras and wife Terri of Lubbock, Texas; five grandchildren, Jesse Suniga, Jr., Alexandria Vergara, Xavier Vergara, Zachary Suniga, and Xena Vergara; three great grandchildren, Aaliyah Garcia, Jason Castellon and Julian Suniga, and several extended family members.
Oralia was preceded in death by her husband, Antonio Suniga; sons, Chuy Suniga and Jason Suniga; son-in- law, Jason Garcia; parents, Roberto and Hilaria Contreras; sister, Blanca Borrego; grandson, Michael Garcia; parent-in-law, Nico Suniga, Carlota Suniga, brother- in- laws, Manuel Borrego, Emilio Ballejo, Nico Suniga, Jr. and Jesse Montoya; sister- in- law, Frances Montoya; nieces and nephews, Celeste Contreras, Renae Contreras, and Steven Suniga.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 5, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with a rosary being recited at 6:00 p.m. at House of Angels Funeral Home Chapel, 1928 34th Street, Lubbock, Texas. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church, 908 Ave J, Shallowater, Texas. Cremation services are under the direction of House of Angels Funeral Home.
