Obituary

Nicco An'jel Reyes, 29, of Lubbock, passed away suddenly on Sunday, October 15, 2023. He was born on January 8, 1994 in Lubbock to Johnny Tijerina Reyes, Jr. and Yre'ne Aguilar. Nicco An'jel Reyes left behind his son Melek Anthony Reyes. His fathers Johnny Tijerina Reyes Jr. and Robert Urive Jr. His mother Yre'ne Aguilar Urive. His sisters Ytalia Mia Sanchez, Brittany Brianna Urive and Amber Ashley Urive. His brother-in-law Francisco Sanchez. His grandparents Marie Rodriguez Aguilar, Estella Reyes, Robert and Lupie Urive and Maria Tijerina. Along with his immediate tia's Monica Sustaita and Cathy Reyes. Tio's Ricky Reyes and Rudy Reyes along with 4 nephews, 4 nieces and countless cousins and other familia that loved him deeply.

His death proceeds his tio's Lazaro Jesus Aguilar, Alphonso Aguilar, Samuel Aguilar, Manuel Aguilar and tia Dora Trevino, his grandfather's Lazaro Olivia Aguilar, Miguel Tijerina, Guadalupe Urive, his grandmother's Helen Rodriguez Santos, Francesca Santos and Ramona Gonzales Urive. Along with many others whom he loved respectfully and wholeheartedly while he lived here on the earth.

Nicco was loved by so many. He had a golden heart and wore it on his sleeve. Unafraid to love boldly and full heartedly. A very unique thing about him was the way children loved him! His nieces and nephews loved to jump on him and wrestle him down to the floor as he cried out for help Lol!! He could go to a friends house where no one knew him and the children there would say hi to him and begin to ask him questions like what was his name, why did he have so many tattoos and then it was Playtime Lol!! Children were sensitive to who he was on the inside… they could feel Jesus in him…

He was very very playful! Always cracking jokes or talking mess or doing both with a suave-like charisma. Then followed by his giggly chuckles of laughter that then made everyone else laugh! …. On family game nights he was horrible at board games! All you heard was 'Noo Nicco you're not supposed to tell us!' Or 'Noo Nicco you can't talk only motions!' His cheekbones would get red and he would laugh and say 'Oh sh— my bad!' He was smooth and charming… That smile though…. It was captivating…. That's probably why he had all the girls dreamy-eyed over him.

Although he loved being a tattoo artist, it was a dream of his from childhood, his hearts center was making music for the Lord. Music is what he used to express the depth of his heart and his spirit. If there was an argument or misunderstanding or something he wanted to tell you but didn't quite know how to say it, he would send you a song to express his heart to you. That was our way of communication since he was a little boy. It's what makes his music so unique. He spoke about real struggles and hurts but most importantly about his faith in Christ Jesus and his struggles in his spiritual walk. No matter how hard he would fall, he was Bold enough to bring the darkness into the Light and would keep getting up to run his race towards the Father!

Nicco An'jel is my son but he left behind a little piece of himself with so many people! His life impacted so many people in so many ways.

As we reminisce our memories of Nicco the most repeated words and expressions of him have been he loves Jesus, he always talked about God, he was Real, a true friend, loving, friendly, faithful, loyal, so funny, very respectful, bold, sweet, kind, charming, caring, strong, outgoing, playful, jokester, helpful, compassionate…. And the list goes on…

What a legacy to leave behind… a beautiful way to be remembered.

I love you my Pelonsito…. We'll keep your memory alive and strong, Amen.
