Maria Ruth (Mendez) Castaneda, 65, of Lubbock passed away on Friday, April 7, 2023. She was born on July 4, 1957, in Austin, Texas to Hinosencio and Felicita (Rodriquez) Mendez. She married Robert Castaneda on October 13, 1972, in Lubbock, and together they began their family. Maria was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and a wonderful cook. She was known for being a very strong and loyal woman. Maria had a great love for music and movies. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Robert Castaneda; four children, Crystal Castaneda, Robert Lee Castaneda, Melissa Escamilla, and K'Luv Castaneda; three brothers, Andrew Mendez, Pete Mendez, and Jr. Mendez; 13 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Maria was preceded in death by her parents, Hinosencio and Felicita Mendez, four siblings, Janie, Lupe, Leon, Jose, and Jessie; and her cat, Morris.

Celebration of life services will be held on Thursday, April 13, 2023, at 1:00p.m. at House of Angels Funeral Home Chapel. Cremation services are under the direction of House of Angels Funeral Home
