Jose Nunez

Jose Nunez Cruz, 86 of Lubbock, passed away on Sunday, October 4, 2026. He was born on January 7, 1940, in Mexico to Francisco and Teodora (Cruz) Nunez. Jose met the love of his life, Herlinda Herrera and they married in 1958, being together for 66 years until her passing in February of 2025. Jose enjoyed fishing, telling stories about his life as he grew up, aways giving encouragement. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Jose raised Chickens and goats, keeping him very busy during his time off. Jose worked for the City of Lubbock Landfill for over 20 years until his retirement. He was Catholic by faith. He will be missed by everyone that knew him.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Javier Nunez and wife Ellena, Manuel Nunez and wife Sylvia, Ismael Nunez and Yolanda, Humberto Nunez and wife Elida, Martin Nunez and wife Teresa, Teresa Zapata and husband Mitilde, Lucia Guerra, Felipe Nunez and wife Ludia, Juan Nunez and wife Alicia, Refugio Nunez and wife Chayo, Maria Gomez and husband Ramiro, Julia Nunez and partner Fernando Vasquez, Jose Nunez and wife Luz and Ricardo Nunez and wife Angelica; 52 grandchildren, 56 great grandchildren and 2 great -great grandchildren; one sister, Margarita Guerra; one brother, Lucio Nunez and several extended family and friends.

Jose was preceded in death by his parents Francisco and Teodora Nunez; wife of 66 years, Herlinda Nunez, two brothers, Santos Nunez, Fidencio Nunez and one sister, Jesus Nunez.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. -8:00 p.m. with a Rosary being recited at 6:00 p.m. at House of Angels Funeral Home Chapel, 1928 34th Street, Lubbock, Tx 79411. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at San Ramon Catholic Church, 15706 TX-493 Loop, Lubbock, Texas 79423. Burial will follow at the City of Lubbock Cemetery.
