Jennie Mae Thornton, 80, of Lubbock passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2023. She was born on August 29, 1942, in Garfield, Georgia to Willie Morris and Lizzie Mae (Jordan) Simmons. Jennie loved spending time with her family and friends, she was a seamstress, cosmetologist and a certified nurses aide. She was an active member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church where she served as a Eucharist Minister, Guadalupana, and a Cursillista. Jennie will be missed by all that knew her.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Millie Thornton and Angel Thornton; grandchildren, Jennie Elizabeth Thornton and wife Shailee Manning, Tyler Anthony Thornton and Mia Rose Thornton; siblings, Gloria Simmons, Dora Williams and husband Alvin, Helen Simmons, Della Simmons, Carolene Fisher and husband Robert, and Donald Simmons, several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Jennie was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Lizzie Simmons, husband, Claude Thornton and brother Willie James Simmons.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 19, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. at House of Angels Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at House of Angles Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at the City of Lubbock Cemetery, Lubbock, Texas.
