Obituary

Jaime Rivera, 61, passed away Sunday, September 17,2023 shortly after watching his beloved Cowboys. As he would have wanted it Jaime passed away surrounded by his family. As he left this life, we shed tears. But rest assured that his first child Jerome, was hands in the air at the pearly gates yelling "WASSSSUP!!!"

Jaime grew up in the panhandle and was a proud member of Coach Greg Sherwood's Plainview Bulldogs football team and led Coach Tomlin's feared secondary the "Spanish Armada". His small stature made him commonly underestimated. As many would find out, he was known as a hard hitter, on and off the field. In the early 90's Jaime started Rivera's Roofing to control his time and ensure that he was at every event for his kids. From his farming roots, and stern raising he taught his children the roofing trade. Making sure that everyone understood the meaning of hard work. His entrepreneurial spirit was infectious as four of his children became 2nd generation contractors.

Jaime was often spotted at bingo or shooting pool (chalk in hand), but loved family, friends, sports, and fishing. Jaime coached every child of his, spanning 30 years. Each one receiving commitment and an unrelenting will to win. A master motivator, he could often be heard saying "I wouldn't ask you to do something I wouldn't." Often overlooked because of his size, Jaime always gravitated towards the long shots and outcast. When coaching his own kids, he made it a point to recruit as many underdog neighborhood kids as possible.

Never a boastful man, his acts could be canonized. It was only through the stories of those he helped that you heard about his altruistic attitude. A shepherd to the lost sheep, and a light to the lost ship, it was not uncommon to find Jaime feeding the homeless, sheltering the needy, and giving more than what he had. Of the many lessons he passed on, he would want you to remember "How do you spell love? T-I-M-E."
