Frances came into the world February 1, 1933, in a dugout near Earth, Texas. For those of you who don't know what a dugout is, it's a hole in the ground with a roof on it. She was born prematurely and according to her mother she weighed in a t a mere 1 ½ to 2 pounds. There were no neo-natal care units back then so through the prayers of her mother and the grace of God she survived. She was the first born of four children. According to her mother she spent most of her early years helping her mother Marie raised the three other children. D.J., Carlton and Gloria, known as Perkey by the family. She met Johnny at church in Morton, Texas. They were joined in Holy Matrimony February 5, 1951, when he was drafted into the military, and they didn't want to wait to be married. For the next four years, they lived at or near fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas, she called it the sand trap. Following the time in El Paso they returned to Morton, Texas, where they farmed and raised three children: Rita, Robert and Gary. She spent most of those years as a farm wife, cooking, cleaning getting kids to school and when needed, driving a tractor. She began working as a retail clothing store clerk in 1979, doing whatever needed to be done. Later she moved over to the local pharmacy at the request of her friend, Nancy Dewbre. Her role there was assistant to the pharmacist, cosmetic expert and whenever needed, the manager. Those hard times during the younger years, trying to help her mom raise three siblings, going without, making a meal from beans or whatever they had and sharing with the neighbors so no one would go hungry, made her who she was and has always been. Those times developed in her the need to serve others. Her volunteer work speaks for itself. The lives she impacted through her servanthood and compassion we will never know. She served as a volunteer for Women's Ministry at church. Made countless number of desserts for bake sales, both at church and for kid's school. She served several years as the camp cook for the West Texas District Youth Camp for the Assembly of God. Prior to being the cook, she was the women's (teen girls) Head of Counselors for many years. She and Johnny were the sole coordinators for the Bridge of Lubbock clothing closet for 10 years. They also did custodial care for the 50, 000 square ft building, all as volunteers. "Primarily she cooked for anybody she thought needed to eat"
