Debra Mary Kocela

Debra Mary Kocela, 35, of Lubbock passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, she was surrounded by her loving family. Debra turned 35 years old just a couple of hours before she breathed her last earthly breath. She fought her sickness long and hard. She was born to Penny (Brown) Cooper on August 18, 1991, in Espanola, New Mexico.

Debra was a very talented young lady, she loved crafting and shopping for herself and others, always looking for a good bargain. She was not afraid to explore any aspect of life, loving to spend time with her family and friends, if it was around food that was even better, she loved seafood of all kinds, she was a collector of recipes. Debra would enjoy a night in watching a good spooky movie, and enjoying snacks, with her friends and family. She lite up the room when she walked in, she was kindhearted and would give you the shirt off of her back if that would make “it all better”. Debra was a loving mother, daughter and friend, she will be missed be everyone that knew her.

Those left to cherish her loving memory are her four children, Amaya Elise Kocela Cavazos, Serenity Grace Cavazos, Bentley David Picon, and Zoe Isabella Picon; parents, Penny and Chuck Cooper; mother-in-law, Cathey Herrera; several extended family and friends.

Debra was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Picon, grandmother, Debra Brown, father, David Kocela and step grandmother Deborah Orr.
