Obituary

Cynthia 'Cindy' Skeen-Wilson, 68, passed peacefully from this world on March 28, 2025 at home in Lubbock, TX, surrounded by her beloved family. She was born on May 9, 1956 in Hawthorne, CA to David Skeen and Patricia Eubank Skeen. She grew up in Torrance, CA where she enjoyed playing in Avalon Park with all manner of bugs and creatures that gave her mother fits. It sparked a sense of wonder and curiosity that stayed with her the rest of her life. In 1964, her brother David was welcomed into the family. They lived in Torrance until 1969, when her father, an aerospace engineer and 'Steely-eyed Missile Man', was transferred to Australia. So the family moved to Alice Springs, where they lived for 18 months. During that time, "Big Dave" was instrumental in assisting Apollo 13 on its mission to return home safely. During her time there, her fascination with other cultures and peoples grew. She enjoyed spending time with native Aussies and Aborigines learning from them about their country, and sharing about her life in America.

After a brief time in Oregon, she and the family finally settled in the San Fernando Valley of Southern California. She attended Grover Cleveland High School, where she was the editor of the Editorial Page and on the varsity tennis team. She graduated with honors in 1974. That summer, she began her career in the aerospace industry, working for her father at Hughes Aircraft Company. There, she met who would later become her mother-in-law, Barbara Guthrie. Cindy was introduced to Barbara's husband Chuck and her son, Cone Wilson. That was the start of a 50 year friendship. It took 10 years, but he finally wore her down and they began dating in 1984. Cindy and Cone were married on June 13, 1987 and began a partnership together that lasted nearly 38 years.

Cindy's greatest joy and reward was being a mother to her children. Alexandra (Allie) was born in 1990 in Torrance and Michael, who was born in 1995 in Roswell, NM. She loved teaching and sharing with them about her upbringing and travels, her successes and challenges, and being always supportive of their lives and activities. She enjoyed teaching Allie how to bake, especially German Christmas Stollen, which they offered to friends and family; and playing marathon video games with Michael…which she acknowledged he was much better at. But she relished the time they spent together. Cindy was also blessed to welcome her other "son" into the family in 2014, when Allie married Sam Eash. In 2021, her grandson 'Greggy' was born, and he immediately became the light of her life. He and 'Nana' became partners in crime, sharing ramen, blueberry muffins, cake…and pretty much anything else he wanted.

Cindy had a long and varied career in multiple industries. While working in the aerospace field, she was involved in designing assemblies and libraries for Printed Wiring Board and Printed Circuit Board generation, and ushering in electronic database release and management. After the family moved to Roswell, NM in 1991, she worked in retail as the Training Manager for ComputerLand; as a Computer Instructor in the Upward Bound Program at Eastern New Mexico University – Roswell and as an applications programmer for Novabus. In 1995, she joined Skillpath Seminars, traveling to 38 states, becoming a highly respected presenter in both computer hardware and software packages. Following that, she joined WESST, the Women's Economic Self-Sufficiency Team, dedicated to helping women and minorities start and successfully run their own business. As Regional Coordinator, she partnered with Regional Director Anthony Urquidez to help numerous individuals realize their dream of business ownership. For their efforts, they received the 2010 Women's Business Center of Excellence Award from the Small Business Administration. During this time, Cindy also served as the Chairwoman for the Roswell Women's History Month celebration, a position which she was deeply honored and proud to hold for 10 years. In 2013, Cindy left to become the Executive Director of the Roswell Refuge for Battered Adults. She remained in that position and served with distinction until 2017. In all of her positions, she worked tirelessly for the betterment of others, offering her counsel and guidance, experience and knowledge, mentorship and friendship. In recent years, Cindy faced some serious health challenges that caused her to be hospitalized often. The decision was made to enter home hospice care, where she would be more comfortable with family and her puppy, Watson. While at home, Sam and Allie were her constant companions and caregivers, offering love and support around the clock.

Cindy is survived by her husband Cone; daughter, Alexandra and Sam Eash; and their son, Gregory; son Michael; her brother, David and his wife Gayla, and their children Ohlin and Annalyn; sister Pam, plus numerous cousins and treasured friends. Cindy lived life on her terms, was a woman of deep faith, and those she touched are far richer because of it.

Cremation services are under the direction of House of Angels Funeral Home.
