Carmelita Flores Rodriguez, 73, of Lubbock, passed away on Sunday, December 12, 2021. She was born on April 2, 1948, in La Feria, Texas to Valentin and Maria de Jesus (Rodriguez) Flores. Carmelita married Simon Rodriguez who was also known as "Simon the Diamond" on August 21, 1965 in Lubbock, Tx and enjoyed 52 years together. Carmelita loved to dance, cook and sew, she was known for her sew abilities. She loved making clothes, especially for her grandchildren, some would say she was a "self-proclaimed" seamstress. Carmelita was known best for homemade tamales, that she cooked every year. She had such a loving heart, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She will be deeply missed by many. Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Janie Sue Rodriguez, Valentin Simon Rodriguez, Victoria Ann Rodriguez, Nancy Perez and husband David Perez, Jr.; Brothers, Pete and Jesus Flores; Grandchildren, Estanislado Rodriguez, Annette Marie Torres, Myles Joshua Torres, Maria Antonia Rodriguez, Valentin Simon Rodriguez, Jr., JoAnna Marie Rodriguez, Zachary Isaiah Rodriguez, Daniel Vera, Veronica Ann Deleon, Esmerelda Lucia Vera, Alvino Simon Vera, Daniella Trinidad Guzman, Destinee Gail Mullen, Abigail Ruth Flores, Senai Noe D Flores, Aubrianna Grace Flores, Kira Isabella Perez; thirty-three great-grandchildren and three on the way. Carmelita was preceded in death by her husband, Simon Rodriguez on July 6, 2017; parents, Valentin and Maria de Jesus Flores; brothers Manuel, Frank, Oscar, Jose Flores; sisters Josephina Flores, Yolanda Flores, Marina Alvarez, Sylvia Segura, San Juana F. Martinez and Mariola Flores; sister in laws, Alicia Flores, Jesusa Flores, Gregoria Flores; two brother in laws, Daniel Z. Martinez and Richard Segra; as well as several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 19, 2021, from 1:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. with rosary to be recited at 4:00 p.m. at House of Angels Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, December 20, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at House of Angels Funeral Home, with burial to follow at the Idalou Cemetery.
