Anivar "AJ" Cortez, Jr., a lifelong resident of Lubbock Texas, passed away on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at the age of 19. He was born on August 28, 2003. AJ enjoyed family time and will be remembered for being the best father that he could be to his daughter, Kathalina. He had a very "happy go lucky" personality and was an avid 49'ers fan. AJ will be greatly missed by those that knew him.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Kathalina Cortez; wife, Kristina Cortez; father, Anivar Cortez, Sr. and wife Deena Drake; mother, Angela Cortez; six siblings, Matthew Zuniga, Xavier Cortez, Zachary Cortez, Destiny Cortez and husband Mark Cadillo, Mireya Cortez and Alyanna Cortez; grandmothers, Maria Garcia and Frances Perez, and several extend family members and friends.

AJ was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Pedro Cortez and Chris Perez.
